WARDOGS Server Browser Not Showing Servers: Fixes

Empty WARDOGS server browser, can't join a server, or stuck in a queue? Work down this checklist in order — the region filter is usually the culprit.

All levels9 min readUpdated Reviewed

Start here: select exactly one region in the server browser, turn every “show” filter on, and refresh. That fixes the empty-list problem for most people. If it does not, work down this page in order — it is sorted by how often each thing is actually the cause, not by how dramatic it sounds.

This page is written for WARDOGS generally, not just for our servers. We run two of them, so we have a selfish interest in you being able to reach a server browser that works — but everything below applies whichever community you end up playing with.

Reviewed 28 September 2026, after patch 0.11. That patch reworked the server browser: Community and Official are now separate lists, filters and text search are more reliable, and every community server has a persistent unique ID you can join by. Early Access still moves quickly, so we date every claim on this page and re-check it as the build changes. If something here is out of date, tell us in Discord and we will fix it.

In a hurry? Join by ID skips this entire page. Open the Community browser, click Join by ID bottom-left, and paste a server ID — ours are on the WARDOGS page. If that connects you, the servers are fine and the problem is a filter.

The empty server browser

Select one region, not several

This is the first thing to check and the most common fix. Selecting multiple regions at once has been widely reported to return an empty list rather than the union of those regions — so a browser set to “all regions” or to two neighbouring ones can show you nothing at all while hundreds of servers are live.

Set the region filter to exactly one region and refresh. If you are in North America, pick North America. Then, if you want to see further afield, change it to one other region rather than adding a second.

This also matters when you are hunting for a specific server: ours are in North America, so a browser filtered to Europe will never show them no matter how carefully you spell the name.

Turn all the “show” toggles on

The browser hides more than people expect by default. Enable every one of these you can find, then refresh:

  • Check which list you are on. Since patch 0.11 the Community and Official browsers are separate lists rather than one filtered list. Community servers, ours included, never appear on the Official one.
  • Show Empty — a server that has not been seeded yet is invisible with this off, which is exactly the problem first thing in the morning.
  • Show Full — otherwise the popular servers, the ones you were probably looking for, vanish at peak time.

Then clear the rest: ping limits, player-count sliders, map or mode filters, and any leftover text in the search box. A ping cap of 50 is a perfectly reasonable setting that will also hide most of the internet from you.

Clear the search box, then search short

Search text persists between sessions and between patches. Clear it entirely and refresh before you conclude the list is broken.

When you do search, search short. Most browsers match on a substring of the full server name, and community servers put tags, taglines and separators in theirs — searching the full name of a server you saw in a video will usually return nothing. Three or four characters is plenty. For ours, CMD or Command both work.

Refresh properly, then restart the client

Server lists cache aggressively. Hit refresh and give it a few seconds — the first query after launch can be slow enough that people assume it failed.

If refresh does not do it, restart WARDOGS entirely. A client that was open across a server-side update will often keep serving you a stale, empty, or partial list until it reconnects.

Verify your game files

If your client is on a different build from the servers, you can end up seeing no servers, or seeing them and being refused on connect. In Steam: right-click WARDOGS → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.

After every patch, check you actually took the update before you go looking for a deeper problem. Steam will sometimes defer a download while the game is running.

“Can’t join server” and connection errors

An empty browser and a failed connection are different problems with different causes. If you can see servers but not get into one:

The server is full, or you are in a queue

At 100 players a server is full, and what happens next depends on the build and on how that community configured its server. You may get a queue, or a refusal. A queue is not a bug — it is the server telling you there is a place for you shortly.

If you would rather not wait, check whether the community runs more than one server. Ours are #1 (standard settings) and #2 (Hardcore — no killcam, reduced HUD, first-person vehicles). They are different experiences rather than one server and a spare, so treat #2 as somewhere to go on purpose rather than a fallback.

Build mismatch after a patch

The most common launch-week refusal. The server took the patch and you did not, or the reverse. Verify files (above), restart Steam if the download will not start, and try again.

Authentication and login delays

Launch-day load hits login and authentication services as hard as it hits game servers. A connection that fails instantly with a login or authentication error is usually not something on your end, and usually not something you can fix by reinstalling. Give it a few minutes.

Before you spend an hour on your own network, check whether the problem is general: the official WARDOGS Discord and the game’s Steam discussion hub will both be loud about it within minutes if services are down.

It is your network, occasionally

Genuinely last on the list, because it genuinely is last in frequency. If every server refuses you and other people are playing fine:

  • Restart your router. Yes, really.
  • If you are on a VPN, turn it off — several VPNs break game server discovery outright.
  • If you are on a corporate, campus, or hotel network, assume it is blocking you; game traffic on non-standard ports is routinely filtered.

We would rather you worked through everything above this section first, though. In our experience running Squad servers for years, “it must be my network” is the conclusion people reach about forty-five minutes before they discover a ping filter.

Are the servers actually down?

Worth separating from everything above, because the fix is “wait” and the diagnosis is quick.

  • Everything empty, for everyone, at once — likely a platform or service problem, not your client. Check the official channels.
  • One specific server missing — that server restarted, took a patch, or crashed. Community servers restart independently of the game’s own infrastructure. Give it a few minutes and refresh.
  • You can see it but not join it — see the connection section above.

For ours specifically, the WARDOGS page carries a live status readout when the feed is reachable, and our Discord will know within a minute or two either way. We announce restarts before we do them.

Still stuck?

Come to Discord and say what you tried, including whether Join by ID worked when search did not. Every report makes this page better, and quite a lot of what is written above came from people telling us what they hit and what actually fixed it.

If you got in and want somewhere to land, our two servers are [★CMD] Command Squad #1 (standard) and #2 (Hardcore), both hosted in US Central, both with admins on. The joining guide has the specifics including both server IDs, and how to pick a WARDOGS server covers what to look for if you would rather judge for yourself.
