Getting Started

How do I join a Command Squad server?

Open the Play page at play.commandsquad.net and use the join link for your server of choice, or search "Command Squad" in the in-game server browser. The server connection guide walks through both routes step by step.

I'm brand new to Squad. Am I welcome?

Yes — new-player friendliness is one of Command Squad's founding commitments. Finish the in-game tutorial, get your microphone working, and join a squad led by an experienced squad leader. The New Player Guide covers everything for your first sessions.

Do I need a microphone?

You need to be able to listen and communicate. A working microphone is strongly recommended for everyone and required for squad leaders and commanders. If you can't speak, tell your squad leader in text chat and keep your local and squad audio on.

Do I have to join Discord to play?

No. Anyone can play on the servers without joining Discord. Discord is where seeding calls, events, player support, and the community itself live, so it's worth joining once you decide you like it here.

Joining the Servers

How many servers does Command Squad run?

Two full-time licensed Squad servers, plus an event server used for community events. Server details and live join links are on the Servers page.

Where are the servers hosted?

The servers run on dedicated, community-funded infrastructure. Each server's BattleMetrics page (linked from the Servers page) shows its location, and your in-game ping in the server browser is the definitive answer for your connection.

I can't find the server in the in-game browser. What do I do?

Use the direct join links on play.commandsquad.net, or check your server browser filters — full and empty servers are often hidden by default. The server connection guide has a full troubleshooting checklist.

Rules

Where can I read the server rules?

The complete, current ruleset is on the Server Rules page. If a rule seems confusing, Rules Explained covers the intent behind the ones players ask about most.

I team-killed someone by accident. Am I in trouble?

Accidents happen — apologize in chat and move on. Intentional or repeated careless teamkilling is what draws administrative action.

How do I report a player or appeal a ban?

Open a ticket in the Discord (external link) support channels. The Player Support guide explains what to include so staff can act quickly.

Membership

Do I need to be a member to play?

No. Membership is optional and always will be. It's a later step for players who want to be part of the community's structure — see the Membership page.

What are the membership requirements?

You must be 18 or older, have playtime on Command Squad servers, complete a probationary period wearing the ☆CMD tag, and not be a member of another Squad clan. Current specifics are posted on the Membership page and in Discord.

What do the ☆CMD and ★CMD tags mean?

☆CMD marks probationary members; ★CMD marks full members. Wearing either without being a member violates the impersonation rule.

Seeding & Whitelist

What is seeding?

Seeding is joining the server while it's low-population so it can grow into a full match. It's one of the most valuable things any player can do for the community — how seeding works explains the special seeding rules and why it matters.

How does seeding whitelisting work?

Consistent, reliable seeding can earn whitelist access. It's evaluated by staff based on reliability and impact over time, not a single session. Final decisions rest with staff.

What does whitelist access actually give me?

Reserved-slot access — you can join ahead of the public queue. It never includes gameplay advantages, and the rules apply to whitelisted players exactly as they do to everyone else.

Community Support

Do I have to donate to play here?

No. Support is optional. Playing the objective, using comms, helping new players, and seeding are some of the most valuable contributions to Command Squad.

Is this pay-to-win?

No. Command Squad does not sell gameplay advantages. Support options focus on access and recognition — not power. Rules apply equally to everyone.

What does financial support fund?

Server hosting and performance infrastructure, licensing, moderation tooling, and ongoing development that improves stability and match quality. See the Support page for the breakdown.

Can I make a one-time contribution instead of a subscription?

Yes — one-time support with no commitment is available at donate.commandsquad.net, alongside monthly support via Patreon. Both are listed on the Support page.
